Review: Alpha by Rachel Vincent

Alpha by Rachel Vincent The sixth and final book in the Shifter Series.

The unscrupulous new Council chair has charged Jace, Marc and me with trespassing, kidnapping, murder and treason. Yeah, we've been busy. But now it's time to take justice into our own hands. We must avenge my brother's death and carve out the rot at the heart of the Council.

It's not going to be easy, and loss seems unavoidable, but I have promised to protect my Pride, no matter what. With a target on my back and Marc at my side, I'm heading for a final showdown that can—that will—change everything forever. A showdown I'm not sure I'm ready for.

But life never waits until you're ready.

OK here is my feelings,

I am now officially in series mourning... I have over the years come to look forward to the release of a new shifter book as I would if I were a child looking forward to my birthday. I have to say that it deeply saddens me to have to say goodbye to the characters I have come to care about with all their flaws, trials and tribulations. There are choices made *yez the Jace Marc Faythe triangle* tears shed *mine* lives lost and partings. I cried like a fool many time while reading Alpha, I also laughed and wanted to smack several characters (as I always do while reading the Shifter books)
All that said Ms Vincent has sent our Pride off with a wonderful last story. The ending left me with a tear in my eye and a smile on my face. So fellow series addicts have no fear of the end.. you will close this book feeling that it might be the end but happy you were given a wonderful ending.. not cheated.
I also hope that with some story lines left to their own devices at the end that if in the future that if Ms Vincent wants to revisit the Pride world there are so many stories left to be told. I give Alpha a hole hearted 5 outta 5.
Thank you again to Nancy and Tricia for telling me about this series.

Review Rachel Vincents Shift

Amazon description: Being the first female werecat enforcer isn't easy. Scars accumulate, but I'm stronger in so many ways.
As for my personal life? It's complicated. Choices worth making always are. Ever since my brother's death and my father's impeachment, it's all I can do to prevent more blood from spilling. Now our Pride is under attack by a flight of vicious thunderbirds. And making peace with our new enemies may be the only way to get the best of our old foe.
With the body count rising and treachery everywhere, my instincts tell me to look before I leap. But sometimes a leap of faith is the only real option….

Damn! Murder, mayhem, treachery & sexual tension! This installment in the shifter series has it all... Add A flight of pissed off Thunderbirds to the mix and you have a read I thoroughly enjoyed. Shift starts up right where Prey lets off. So Faythe, Marc and Jace along with all the other South Central Pride cats are up to their whiskers in trouble.

I have a favorite line, but hesitate to post it this early. I would hate to spoil the "moment" for any other reader. But I will here... read at your own risk of spoilerage.... !!

"My Mom Just handed Blackwell his shriveled old balls in front of everyone!"

There was some major Fathye / Jace flirting going on too.. *smacks faythe in the head* sigh.. I am all Team Marc.. I can see Team Jace's point :O) But seriously I heart Mark!

You get catch a glimpse of what Jace's childhood was really like, and why he is so loyal to Greg Saunders and his pride. They have been more a family to him than his own mother and step "brothers". Calvin Malone will stop at nothing to make sure his evil spawn are the next generation of Alphas! Malone is just about the rottenest dude eveah! I just want to smack Patricia Malone in the head and say WAKE up! Don't you see what evil you have been living with! but I digress...

Wow, how about the addition of the Thunderbirds! I was surprised how much of the story revolved around them and their actions. After the action got going there was no stopping. I very much enjoyed the Thunderbird/ Werecat interaction.. Each with their own traditions and Laws. Nothing is as important to the Thunderbirds than honor, and they are taken aback by the fact that they have been duped by Malone. Faythe and Kaci are the ones held accountable to set things right. Faythe must prove that her Pride had nothing to do with the murder of their cock *snickers* Finn, or Kaci will be put to death in just 48 hours!

There is nonstop action. I enjoyed Shift from cover to cover!~! oohhh and not to forget along the way Faythe and Jace have picked up yet another enemy that I am sure will be wreaking some major havoc in Alpha..

Now seriously I can't wait to get my hands on Alpha due out in September 2010!

Waiting on Wednesday.........

SOMETIMES PLAYING CAT AND MOUSE IS NO GAME...Play? Right. My Pride is under fire from all sides, my father's authority is in question and my lover is in exile. Which means I haven't laid eyes on Marc's gorgeous face in months. And with a new mother and an I-know-everything teenager under my protection, I don't exactly have time to fantasize about ever seeing him again. Then our long-awaited reunion is ruined by a vicious ambush by strays. Now our group is under attack, Marc is missing, and I will need every bit of skill and smarts to keep my family from being torn apart. Forever.

Prey is due for release on July 1, 2009.

I very much love the Rachel Vincent WereCat shifter books.
And Am dying to get my hands on the next installment. I want to find out what is going to happen next in the pride, to Mark and Faythe!

This is my Waiting on Wednesday what is yours???
